Custom or personalised means exactly that. If you have a photograph or picture of a loved one that you would like wood-burned for something really different you send it to me. If want text or dates etc that's easily done.

In case you are interested in the process, I copy the photo onto the wood. I use birch plywood. I then measure critical distances to make sure that my outline is correct. Ie the length and width of the eyes, the width of the forehead, jawline, width of the mouth, length and width of teeth, etc. Being finicky in the beginning I found, saves tons of time down the line correcting things. It is amazing how the slightest error in shape or detail can change the whole picture. For example, when I did my daughter's face there was something amiss. She has a rounded forehead and whilst it measured correctly her face did not appear in proportion. I discovered in my shading around her chin area that I had made her chin line 5mm longer than it actually was. I corrected it and wham, got it right.

This is a picture of one of my daughters and her son and also my first attempt at wood burning a portrait from a photo. Not as easy as I thought it would be but what a rewarding feeling having completed and at least recognising them.
Attention to detail is vital in wood-burning portraits. The shape of the face and hairstyle is top key but the eyes are critical. I pride myself on getting the eyes right. Interesting, I thought I could bring a splash of color into the eyes but the detail is too small to get the right effect as nice as I imagine it to be. So maybe with a bit more practice it is something I could look to do in the future.

The biggest challenge I find is the eyes.
I thoroughly enjoyed this project and want to assure you that your portrait will get my absolute commitment to detail that you can proudly display this unique form of portraiture in your home office.
