Burl is a distinctive and highly figured wood, prized for its beauty and rarity. The gorgeous patterning in Burl is created by a stress of some kind while the tree was growing; most commonly, it is a growth in the wood grain resulting from unsprouted wood tissue. Because the grain is twisted and interlocked, it is extremely dense and challenging to craft.
