About this artwork:

I paint from my soul - as a way of making sense of the world around us. The perspective from behind the figures I paint positions the observer in a unique spot; only gathering half the picture, while observing the world through the lens of each subject.

This piece remains "Untitled" - I'm asked quite a bit about it. I love to share what it means, but love even more to hear how others interpret it. Here's my take: there's a past-present-future concept here, but dig deeper and there's even more...

This piece was in my mind for so long. It finally came to fruition in January 2021. The Black Woman understands deeply how, despite disappointment and denial, we must all come together to heal and move forward (toward light, acknowledgement, peace, understanding… etc.). she silently and anonymously stands, straight, strong posture, with grace, and leads. She is dripping with femininity, confidence, sensuality, purity and power. She is a goddess, floating… while the other figures are grounded in this piece.

Youth/hope on her left, gently hangs onto her forearm, with her. Ready to follow where she leads. You can see the child in this one carries the “hope” and it spreads though the entire piece.

The figure to the right is doubting her own power and strength. An ally, but has she done enough? A realization of where we are. But… they are clinging to one another (in fact the woman in the middle refuses to let go) because it's not too late to get up. “Get. Up.” Was the original name of this piece, but that made it too much about the figure on the right. I decided to change it to “Untitled” because there are no words for the power and grace the woman in the middle holds. The focus is her and all she is to our world. She fixes us as we fixate on her. She faces adversity and keeps her head held high, leading with love and hope. She is and so we top all must get up and go with her.

With all my pieces, I hope this one makes you think and feel. Thanks for looking ✌.
