Product code: Anglo Saxon top Urn
Short and wide early Anglo-Saxon urn, found at the cemetery at Caistor-by-Norwich. This urn top is most likely a pagan piece, though the thousands of urns found date from the Roman occupation up until the 7th century, when the site finally fell out of use.
I have no additional information with regards to the ware, however this is a reddish-brown ceramic, with some slight blackening due to mixing of clays.
There is a chevron design, between two bands of straight lines. At the widest point, it is decorated with thumb indents.
